Trinity Hunger Initiative: Feeding Hearts and Filling Backpacks

We are proud to continue our Trinity Hunger Initiative, a student-led service project that directly supports food-insecure children in our community. With the help of our families and students, we packed an incredible 2,770 “backpack bags” this school year, each one representing a child who didn’t go hungry over the weekend.

These gallon-sized ziplock bags are discreetly placed in students’ backpacks during recess at a local partner school, ensuring they have access to food when school meals are unavailable. Our Trinity students take the lead in this project, applying skills in math, budgeting, nutrition, and collaboration to plan and shop for the items. They’re given a set budget, dietary guidelines, and access to online shopping accounts to create shopping lists that meet nutritional and financial requirements.

What began as an effort to fill 80–100 bags every two weeks has grown significantly, with Trinity now packing over 2,700 bags annually to support the growing needs of our community.

This initiative teaches more than service, it cultivates leadership, empathy, and gratitude in our students. They don’t just learn how to give back, they learn why it matters.

We’re grateful for the continued support of our Trinity families who make this mission possible. Together, we are feeding bodies, shaping hearts, and making a difference, one backpack at a time.

Community Kindness Night

Community Kindness Night is a special Trinity tradition where families come together for an evening dedicated to service and connection. Designed to engage students and their families in meaningful, hands-on activities, this event partners with local nonprofits like the Dorothy O’Connor Pet Adoption Center and the Victoria Public Library.

Together, families take part in projects such as making dog toys, assembling hunger relief bags, creating friendship bracelets, and writing notes of encouragement. It’s a simple but powerful way to show students that kindness matters and that giving back is something we do together, as a school community.

Chapel Buddies

One of the most cherished traditions at Trinity is our Chapel Buddies program. This special initiative pairs older and younger students together to attend chapel services throughout the year, creating meaningful cross-grade relationships and fostering a strong sense of community.

Chapel Buddies sit together during our regular chapel services – held every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday morning – and often participate in activities that encourage mentorship, friendship, and shared faith. Older students take on a leadership role, modeling respect, reverence, and school values, while younger students gain a trusted friend and role model.

These relationships often extend beyond chapel, building confidence, compassion, and connection across grade levels. The Chapel Buddies program beautifully reflects Trinity’s mission of nurturing the whole child – spiritually, emotionally, and socially.
