Martha Bentley
Spanish Teacher
Trinity Episcopal School is proud to honor our beloved middle school Spanish teacher, Mrs. Bentley, as she steps into her 31st year of teaching, having devoted the last 30 years to the Trinity community. Over the years, her grandchildren have also attended Trinity, adding a special, personal connection to the school. This multigenerational experience has deepened her bond with the school, making each day a joyful homecoming as she walks through the halls where her family has also learned and grown.
Her journey as an educator is one rooted deeply in family and inspiration. Her grandmothers, both educators themselves, instilled in her a profound respect for the teaching profession, demonstrating that education is not just a job but a calling to shape young lives. She credits her own 5th-grade teacher, Mr. Wendell, as the spark that ignited her passion for learning and teaching. Mr. Wendell’s support and encouragement helped her see the potential impact one teacher can have, a lesson she’s carried with her throughout her career.
Her love for teaching goes beyond grammar and vocabulary. She is passionate about opening her students’ eyes to a world of different perspectives, cultures, and languages. For her, teaching Spanish isn’t simply about acquiring a new language; it’s a way to foster empathy and global understanding. She finds great joy in helping her students explore cultures different from their own, challenging them to step outside of their comfort zones and embrace new ideas. In every lesson, she works to create a classroom environment where curiosity is encouraged, and respect for diversity is paramount.
To her, being a Patriot embodies a unique set of values that she encourages every student to carry with them. She describes a true Patriot as someone who possesses a positive attitude, a thirst for learning, an unwavering determination to succeed, and a commitment to leadership. A Patriot, in her view, is someone who consistently shows kindness and respect to others, upholds high Christian values, and demonstrates character in both their words and actions. Through her example, she inspires her students to live out these ideals, both inside and outside the classroom.
Among her favorite Trinity traditions are the ones that bring the entire community together. She looks forward to Outdoor Education each year, relishing the chance to see her students learn and bond in a setting beyond the classroom walls. Grandparents Day holds a special place in her heart, as she witnesses the generations come together in celebration of family and learning. And when the Christmas season rolls around, she eagerly anticipates the annual Christmas program—a cherished time to gather with the school community in the spirit of joy and faith.
Beyond the classroom, she cherishes time spent with her family, often traveling to discover new places together. Her love for travel and the beach mirrors her desire to explore and experience the beauty the world has to offer, qualities she joyfully brings into her teaching. Whether she’s walking along the beach with loved ones or embarking on family trips, these moments refresh and inspire her, adding to the passion she brings to her classroom each day.
Here’s to our remarkable middle school Spanish teacher and the many lives she’s touched over the years. A fixture in our school family, her passion for teaching, unwavering dedication, and genuine love for her students have inspired generations, creating a legacy of learning, kindness, and cultural appreciation. Thank you for the countless memories, lessons, and kindness you bring into our lives—each day, we are better for it!
