Inspiring Creativity Through Unrestricted Expression: A Spotlight on Our Art Teacher

At the heart of Trinity’s vibrant art program is a teacher whose passion for creativity and innovation knows no bounds, Mrs. Claire Santellana. With 15 years of experience, including a rich background in private art instruction, she has quickly become a cornerstone of our community since joining the school just a year ago.

Her connection to Trinity runs deep. As a member of a family with strong ties to the school, she is proud that her sister-in-law and two nieces have been a part of the Trinity tradition. Today, her bond with the school is even more personal, as two of her own children walk the halls and experience the same nurturing environment she has grown to love.

One of her favorite traditions at Trinity is chapel, a time when the entire school comes together to worship. She finds immense joy in hearing the students’ voices lifted in song, a reminder of the close-knit, faith-driven community that makes Trinity unique. But it’s in the classroom where she truly sees the spirit of Trinity shine.

In her Art class, she encourages students to explore their creativity without the constraints of traditional rules or expectations. For her, the greatest inspiration comes from watching her students approach art with a sense of freedom and curiosity. “When they create, they’re not bound by the ‘shoulds’ and ‘should-nots’ of the art world,” she shares. “Their work is authentic and raw, and it’s that unfiltered expression that inspires me every day.”

Her dedication to the arts extends far beyond the classroom. A talented artist in her own right, she is also a thriving entrepreneur, running several successful businesses that contribute to the local art scene. The Viva Texas Film Festival, VTX Art Walk, and Crossroads Art House are her brainchildren, each providing a platform for artists and filmmakers to showcase their work and connect with the community. This fall, she showcased her own art in several prestigious shows, including exhibitions at Soho House in Austin and Victoria College. These upcoming shows are a testament to her commitment to her craft and her relentless pursuit of creative excellence.

Yet, despite her many achievements, it is the daily joy of teaching that she holds most dear. “I truly love what I do,” she says with a smile. “There’s nothing more fulfilling than seeing what my students create. They bring so much energy and innovation into the classroom, and that’s what makes my job so rewarding.”

As she continues to inspire the next generation of artists at Trinity, she remains a shining example of what it means to be part of this special school community—where creativity, faith, and a love of learning intersect.
